Police praise ‘brilliant atmosphere’ after Sheffield Wednesday vs Millwall clash despite fan violence

In a tweet from South Yorkshire’s special constables, who supported the policing operation around the fixture, they said: “A very small number of fans caused some disorder but the vast majority of fans were fantastic and created a brilliant atmosphere.”
There was a heavy police presence in Hillsborough before, during and after the Saturday’s fixture.

During an outbreak of disorder police officers and a dog can be seen running towards football fans.
One fan is held onto by officers while another can be seen on the ground.
Details of the number of arrests made as part of the policing operation has not yet been released.
