Officers spotted the quad bike and its rider on the streets, and stopped and seized the vehicle after they discovered it was uninsured and and unregistered.

A spokesperson for SYP said: “It is important for members of the public to remember that unregistered, uninsured off-road vehicles cannot be ridden anywhere that is not private land. This includes public parks, woodland, pavements and of course roads.”

A VW Sprinter was seized after it was being driven on a Provisional Licence, and an Audi A4 failed to stop. The Audi was pursued to Jamaica Street where the uninsured and unlicensed driver tried to run away.

He didn’t get far before he was detained and charged with driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, driving with no insurance, driving without due care and attention and failing to stop for police.

The police spokesperson added: “We work hard to be present and visible in the area as often as we can, and remain committed to listening to the views of residents and any disruptive influences in the area.

"Just this evening, we have also searched two males on the Birchlands Estate following reports of drug dealing, and seized a quantity of cannabis.

“We’re around all day tomorrow too!”
