Police told punters to 'stay inside' pub after man was shot on Sheffield street

Punters inside The Old Red Lion on Main Street, Grenoside, were advised not to leave after a man was shot on Lump Lane in order not to disrupt the crime scene.
The shooting was unconnected to the pub and police have launched an investigation into the attack.

Hide AdOfficers were called to the scene on Lump Lane at 8.59pm last night, Thursday, August 27, after a 35-year-old man was shot in the leg.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment and a police cordon remains in place on the road as police investigate the events that led up to the shooting.
Resident Holly Benn, who lives a few houses from where the man was shot, said: “I heard the gun shots and I looked out of my window and saw a car driving a lot quicker than he should have been straight down Lump Lane.
"The driver must've been going around 40/50mph, I saw the car no more than 15 seconds after I heard the gunshots.

Hide Ad"I don't know if it was connected but I thought it was odd for someone to be driving that quick down a 20mph road especially when gunshots have just gone off.”
The 18-year-old bartender explained that she saw armed officers and a police cordon half an hour after she spotted a dark coloured Audi speeding down the street.
Holly said she moved to Grenoside from Shiregreen because it is known as being a safe area.
She added: "What happened last night is definitely out of the ordinary for Grenoside.

Hide Ad"We've had the odd thefts happening around our area recently but nothing like this.
"I was very surprised as to what I heard last night, I wasn't sure if what I heard was gunshots or fireworks at first.
"But I knew it were gunshots as they're so distinctive and different from fireworks.
"It definitely made me concerned as I never hear anything like that going off in Grenoside.”
