Police officers have been visiting homes and handing out fines for Covid breaches in a crackdown in Page Hall in Sheffield.

The area has had issues with large groups gathering on the streets during the coronavirus pandemic, with a number of videos and photographs of crowds shared online.

South Yorkshire Police has set up a new police base in Page Hall during the pandemic.

The force said: “Although the ‘rule of six’ now applies outdoors, it is important that Covid rules are still followed when it comes to households mixing indoors or large groups of people congregating.

“As such, the Page Hall team has been out this weekend ensuring that breaches of Covid regulations are still enforced to keep us on track as we follow the roadmap to lockdown easing.

“Nine Covid fixed penalty notices have been issued this evening (Saturday), and plenty more addresses and members of the public spoken to and advised.”
