Sheffield community group calls for action after Bramall Lane fatal shooting

Expressing their anger and frustration, Sharrow-based Mums United – a charity that tackles youth violence – are taking the authorities to task as the city is plagued with an increasing number of gun-related incidents.
A man was fatally shot in an incident that took place in Clough Road, near Bramall Lane at around 9.40pm on Saturday.

Hide AdPolice who attended the scene discovered the man with life-threatening injuries consistent with firearms discharge. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The man has been locally named as father-of-two Khuram Javed, a solicitor at a local law firm on London Road.
The group's founder Sahira Irshad said: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased, the local community are devastated by what has happened.
"We are angry and frustrated with the increased number of gun related incidents that are taking place.

Hide Ad"When will it stop ? How many more lives will be destroyed before we realise we have a serious problem in the area with gang violence. How many more innocent people will be caught in the crossfire?"
She said for the past year, the group has been talking about the increasing number of gun incidents and how the police should do more to tackle the issue.
"The police need to arrest the people who are handing the guns to the young people. They know who they are and we call all the community members to come together in solidarity and join us to stand up against the violence that is taking place in our area.
"Another life has been lost to this senseless violence we are seeing in our area - innocent bystanders getting caught in the crossfire - when will it stop?

It has been reported in November last year that a total of 17,443 incidents of violence were reported in Sheffield between June 2019 and June 2020 - an increase of eight per cent compared to the previous year.
