The van was found by the South Yorkshire Police Operations Team in Tinsley yesterday afternoon (Thursday, December 10), after officers thought the vehicle looked suspicious.
In a post on Facebook, the force said: “It attracted the attention of an eagle eyed colleague who wondered why the front registration plate of an old battered van was secured with bright and shiny screws.
“And not just any screws.
"On closer inspection, they appeared to be wood screws.”

After further checks, police later realised the registration plates on the stolen van did not match the vehicle and been robbed from another Ford Transit to hide the fact it was a stolen car.
The social media post from the operations team continued: “Our colleague pulled his confused face though when he made some further checks – the plates the van was displaying did not match the van they were on!
“It transpires that some bright spark had stolen the plates from another stolen Ford Transit and put them on the Transit that they had stolen to try and hide that fact that it was a stolen vehicle!
