Sheffield firework victim receives message of support from around the world

A girl from Sheffield who was hit in her face with a firework as she walked home from school has received messages of support from around the world.

The 12-year-old, who attends Outwood Academy City in Stradbroke, was injured when a firework exploded in her face last Friday.

Fellow pupils were seen setting off fireworks as they made their way home and one was thrown at the Year 12 pupil.

She is now under the car of a team of plastic surgeons in the hope that she will not be scarred for life after the attack.

A police probe into the incident has been launched.

The girl’s mum posted about the attack on Facebook and it was shared over 9,000 times and reached people in countries including America, Italy and Australia, who have sent well-wishes to the youngster.

The mum-of-two said: “We have been overwhelmed at the support my daughter has received, with messages from as far away as America, Italy and Australia.

“A charity called Kids at Heart has been in touch to say they are raising money for my daughter and we want to say thank you to them and everyone who has shown they care. It means such a lot to us.”

She has condemned those responsible for the attack and has called for them to be expelled from school on safeguarding grounds.

Her daughter remains off school while she recovers from the firework attack.
