Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard how David Drayton, aged 44, of Greaves Road, Ecclesfield, admitted damaging his partner’s phone and admitted failing to attend a subsequent court hearing.

Rob Coyne, prosecuting, said Drayton admitted bending his partner’s phone after they had been arguing in January and he was bailed to attend court but failed to attend. Tim Gaubert, defending, said he failed to attend court after he was wrongly told by a friend the matter could be dealt with in his absence. District Judge Naomi Redhouse sentenced Drayton to a six-month conditional discharge and fined him £150. He must pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
