Sheffield school sends heartfelt message to family of boy, 13, hit by double decker bus

A school says its thoughts are with one of its pupils who was seriously hurt in a collision with a bus.

The 13-year-old boy was taken to hospital, where police have described his condition as ‘critical but stable’, after being hit by the bus on Retford Road in Handsworth on Monday morning at 7.35am.

The crash happened around 100 metres from Handsworth Grange Community College, on Handsworth Grange Road, where the teenager is studying.

Headteacher Nick Parker said: “We are supporting family and friends of the pupil and would like to send our best wishes and all our love to the family of the pupil involved at this difficult time.”

A large crack could be seen this morning in the windscreen of a number 52 bus, operated by Stagecoach, which is believed to have been involved in the crash.

The road was closed this morning, with a cordon in place around the bus, close to a pedestrian crossing near the junction with Beaver Hill Road.

The boy who was injured is a year nine student at the college.

South Yorkshire Police said officers were this afternoon continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
