Police were called to Ferrars Road in Tinsley shortly before 8pm on Monday (April 19) to reports that shots had been fired towards a house on the street.
No one was injured in the shooting but a 45-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences.

The area was described by residents as generally quiet, but some said there had been other incidents recently that had changed this.
One man, who didn’t want to be named, said three cars had been ‘burned out’ in front of the same house in the last 12 months.
The house in question was within the large police cordon but it was unclear where exactly on the street the incident has taken place.

The man, who lives on the street with his wife and son, said Farrar Road was quieter than other parts of Tinsley, but that the recent incidents were worrying to him.
He said: “I’ve lived here for 15 years without too many problems. This street is normally better that other roads in the area.
“But to have three cars burned out in the last year and now a shooting – it is unacceptable.”

He said the houses were either rented or housing association owned, and often saw a high turnover of people living in them.
Police said today that additional patrols had been deployed to the area to provide reassurance and appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
