Sheffield Crown Court heard today, Friday, May 15, how Richard Goodlad, aged 28, of Laughton Road, Dinnington, Sheffield, told his ex-partner he would knock her head off and he threatened to set fire to her car and he would blow her head off.

James Baird, prosecuting, said: “He said if he saw the complainant he would knock her head off her shoulders and he knew people and she should watch her back and he threatened to set fire to her car and he would get people to come to her house with shotguns and he would come to her house and blow her head off.

“She believed he was capable of carrying out the threats made and she was scared and frightened.”

Mr Baird explained that Goodlad made the threats after his ex-partner had begun to put a maintenance order in place concerning their child and he began arguing with his partner after she had called him.

Goodlad, who has been remanded in custody, pleaded guilty to making threats to kill and making threats to cause damage after the incident in September, 2019.

Matthew Burdon, defending, said the complainant had called Goodlad and he made a further call and made the comments during a loss of temper but he never intended to follow them through.

Judge Graham Reeds QC sentenced Goodlad, who has previous convictions, to 12 months of custody.
