The driver of the Ford Fiesta, a 39-year-old woman, was also taken to hospital with serious injuries and an eight-year-old girl travelling in the same car suffered minor injuries.

The occupants of the Seat Leon fled the scene.

Two 21-year-old Sheffield men were later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and being unfit to drive through drink or drugs.

They have been released under investigation.
