Three men arrested over bank holiday shootings in Sheffield

Three men have been arrested following two shootings in Sheffield over the bank holiday weekend, the fifth and sixth firearms incidents in the city this month.

The men, aged 18, 36 and 42, were arrested on suspicion of firearms offences, assault and criminal damage on Tuesday (26 May).

Their arrests follow two incidents police are treating as separate targeted attacks.

Officers were called to Fishponds Road in Woodthorpe on Sunday (24 May) at around 10pm to reports of shots being fired at a property by an unknown man on a bike. No-one was injured, but evidence of a firearms discharge was found at the scene.

The following day, (25 May), a member of the public called police at 8.30pm to report shots had been fired at a property and a car parked on Myrtle Road, Heeley. Nobody was injured, but the car was damaged.

Detective chief inspector Jamie Henderson, force lead for armed criminality, confirmed there would be an increase police presence in the areas “for the foreseeable future.”

He said: “We know that incidents like this are concerning for our communities. Please be assured that my officers are working hard to progress these investigations.

The men have been released on bail while investigations continue.

Detective chief inspector Henderson added: “I am urging those who may know the people involved in these incidents to come forward. We know it can be hard to speak to us, but please do.”
