David Blunkett to open new construction centre at Barnsley College

Former Sheffield MP, Lord David Blunkett, will officially open Barnsley College's new Construction Centre tomorrow.

The new £10.8 million building, which opened to students in September 2015, is based at the college’s Honeywell campus and includes specialist equipment, machinery and workshops for courses in bricklaying, carpentry and joinery, dry lining, painting and decorating, plastering and wall and floor tiling.

Invited guests will have the opportunity to find out more about the new building, take a look at the facilities, view student demonstrations and see displays of their work.

They will also find out how the centre is supporting students in the South Yorkshire area to develop the skills they require for careers within the construction and utilities industries.

Lord David Blunkett said: “I am very pleased to have been asked to officially open the new building.

“Being a former tutor at Barnsley College, I am looking forward to returning and finding out more about the new Construction Centre and how it is helping students develop much needed construction skills for the future.”
