Derbys pupils above average

DERBYSHIRE pupils have beaten the national average standard for English, reading, writing, maths and science.

Key Stage 3 test results for 14-year-olds show more than three-quarters of Derbyshire pupils reached the benchmark level of five or above in every subject tested.

The highest score was in maths where 80 per cent of pupils reached level five or more - compared to a national average of 76pc.

The figure for science was 78pc compared to 73pc nationally, and 77pc for English, beating the national average by 3pc. Reading and writing scored 76pc. Coun Anne Western, Derbyshire County Council cabinet member for children’s services, said: “This success mirrors last week’s results at Key Stage 2 for 11-year-olds and shows that Derbyshire pupils are performing consistently well.”
