Ched, who signed for Sheffield United in a £3 million three-year deal in 2009, is fighting a rape conviction.

He was jailed for five years in 2012 after being found guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman in a hotel bedroom in Rhyl, North Wales, on a night out in May 2011.

The Welsh international was released from prison in October 2014, after serving half of his prison sentence behind bars.

He was convicted on the basis that his accuser was too drunk to consent to sex.

Evans, who was in a relationship with Ms Massey at the time, admitted the encounter but insisted it was consensual.

His accuser’s lawyers argued that she was too drunk to consent.

Evans, who has always maintained his innocence, has had his case referred to the Court of Appeal after the Criminal Cases Review Commission examined the case and was presented with fresh evidence not raised during the trial.

The footballer has struggled to resume his professional playing career since being released from behind bars.
