Doncaster's final chance in relegation fight

DONCASTER Rugby League Club will be hoping to grab a lifeline in their bid to stay afloat in the National League One relegation battle in tomorrow's game against Rochdale Hornets at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Defeat for the Dons, currently five points adrift of second bottom Rochdale with just five games left, would mean that they would have one foot in the Second Division.

“Anything but a win, and preferably by more than 12 points to deny Rochdale a bonus, would make it very hard for us,” said head coach John Stankevitch.

“It would leave us having to win all our last four games, three of which are away, and there would be no margin for error.

“Even then, we would be relying on other results going our way, which is never a good position to be in.”

The Dons have lost all four matches since Stankevitch took charge and their losing sequence now stands at eight.

But following much-improved performances against Halifax and Widnes, Stankevitch says the Dons will go into the match as favourites.

“Based on how we’ve been playing recently, it is a game that we are capable of winning and hopefully pushing on from there,” he said.
