Drugs found, stolen phones recovered, vehicles seized

MORE than 100 people have been arrested for a range of offences from drink-driving to supplying class A drugs in Doncaster.

Warrants have been executed at addresses throughout the area as part of the police’s Operation Impact scheme, with drugs to the value of almost 16,000 being recovered.

The operation is also targeting people who use stolen mobile phones, and second-hand shops in Doncaster are co-operating with the police to allow serial number checks which reveal the details of the true owner.

People who are detained are also having their mobile phone’s serial numbers checked and out of 444 phones checked, officers identified 59 as being stolen or blocked.

As part of the operation the Doncaster Drugs Unit executed a search warrant on Kenneth Avenue in Stain-forth in response to information received from the public.

Officers recovered 10 wraps of heroin along with drug-dealing equipment and cash.

A 29-year-old woman was arrested and charged with supplying Class A drugs and possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.

Police also searched premises on Shadyside, Hexthorpe, where they recovered 9,000 of cannabis plants from the cellar of a terrace property. A 37-year-old man has been arrested and inquiries are continuing.

Meanwhile, officers conducting road checks using the automatic number plate-recognition system have seized 20 vehicles for having no insurance or being unroadworthy.

Supt Bill Hotchkiss, leading the operation for Doncaster said: “The first week of Operation Impact has been a tremendous success with results far exceeding our expectations.

“I would like to thank the public for their support and pay tribute to the dedication of our Impact team and the wider partnership who have created a climate where criminals have nowhere to hide.”
