Fire crews called to series of car blazes

CARS were set alight in a spate of fires across South Yorkshire overnight.

A stolen Citroen Saxo was dumped and set alight on Church View, Woodhouse, Sheffield, and a Vauxhall Corsa, also believed to have been stolen, was torched on waste ground at Carlisle Street, Kilnhurst, Rotherham.

An MG sports car was set alight on a house driveway at Wakefield Road, Smithies, Barnsley, and a stolen Mazda van was found later ablaze nearby on wasteland off Rotherham Road, Smithies.

Fire crews were also called to a motorbike fire at Low Lodge, Royston.

The stolen bike was dumped and set alight in the middle of the road.

n GANGS of youths started three grass fires on wasteland at Jump, near Barnsley, between 10pm and 11pm last night.

Fire crews tackled blazes on land off Roebuck Hill, Dearne Valley Parkway and Arundel View.
