Firms count the costs

HM REVENUE and Customs officials were due in Sheffield today to visit flood-hit areas and publicise measures they have taken to help affected businesses - such as deferring tax collection.

The officials will also meet representatives from the Chamber of Commerce - which today revealed it estimates more than1,000 businesses have been directly affected, rising to 10,000 when taking into account power cuts, road closures and supply chain effects. A significant number are in Don Valley and Chapeltown.
