Flower festival will celebrate organ's 150th year

ST MARY'S Church at Tickhill will be ablaze with colour over the August Bank Holiday weekend for a flower festival to celebrate the organ's 150th anniversary.

It gets underway with a preview night on Thursday at 7.45pm, when the blooms will be at their freshest, with 10 tickets available from Lockwood’s florist on Sunderland Street.

.On Friday the church will be open from 10am to 7pm and a Psalmathon will see the choir and friends singing the Psalms in a variety of styles from 9am.

The church is open from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and the highlight of the day will be the Bring and Sing Messiah at 7pm.

Members of the public are invited to come along and join in with organist Darius Battiwalla, members of the Doncaster Choral Society, Rotherham Choral Society and Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus.

On Sunday, the festival will continue from noon to 5pm. The Flower Festival comes to a conclusion on Bank Holiday Monday with Songs of Praise organised by Tickhill Churches Together at 7pm.

Money raised will benefit St Mary’s Heritage Appeal that is raising 100,000 to pay for essential repairs.
