Girlguiding Sheffield members attend exclusive screening of Disney's Beauty and the Beast film

Hundreds of Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers from across Sheffield attended an exclusive girl-only screening of the live action release of Disney's Beauty and the Beast film at Odeon cinema, Arundel Gate, last weekend.

They were among more than 30,000 Girlguiding members who attended the mass screenings on Saturday and Sunday, which took place at Odeon cinemas across the UK.

The eagerly awaited film remake sees Emma Watson play Belle as an inventor, giving a feminist twist to the Disney classic.

Imogen Lamb-Keats, age 8, said: “I had a great time watching the film with my friends from Brownies! The only bad part was when it ended!”

Keira Revill-Morewood, age 8, said “It was epic and awesome”!

Keira’s sister, Bethany, age 15, who also attended the event, said “I had a fab time. I loved that I could go to see this film with my Guiding family. I nearly cried at the end! It was such an amazing remake of the original.”

Amanda Tazzyman, Leader of 39th Wisewood Guides said: “It was such a fantastic atmosphere, seeing all the happy faces in a secure environment for everyone. Beauty and the Beast is a classic film with a great modern twist which is just like Girlguiding; moving with the ever changing times.”

One of Amanda’s Guides chose to make her Girlguiding Promise just before the film started, adding to a long list of different locations where Wisewood Guides have made their Promises.

Andy Edge, Commercial Director at ODEON UK & Ireland, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Girlguiding to host these exclusive screenings of the magical Beauty and the Beast before it is released nationwide at ODEON Cinemas. Supporting the local community is hugely important to us and it was a pleasure welcoming so many excited Girl Guides through our doors to enjoy the new animation of the tale as old as time.”

Lead actress Emma Watson, who routinely speaks out against gender stereotyping, was voted one of Girlguiding members’ top 10 inspiring women in a poll last year.

Girlguiding offers girls as young as five the opportunity to be independent, learn new skills, gain confidence, make new friends and have fun.
