Greenacre School Barnsley: Pedestrian fighting for life after collision involving car near school

A woman is fighting for her life after being struck by a car while walking near a South Yorkshire school around home time.

South Yorkshire Police say that the 67-year-old woman, who was a pedestrian, was left in a life-threatening condition in the incident which happened yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, July 5)

Officers from the force’s Roads Policing Group are investigating.

The incident happened about 3.45pm yesterday, when police say a blue Skoda Fabia TSi was travelling along Broadway from the direction of Dodworth towards Pogmoor when it was involved in a collision with a woman on the bend in the road near Greenacre School.

The 67-year-old was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition with pelvic and head injuries. A second pedestrian, a woman aged in her 70s, received minor cuts to her head.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward to help them with the investigation.

Sergeant Matt Duffy, the traffic officer leading the investigation, said: “We are seeking witnesses to this collision so that we can build a complete picture of what happened in the build-up to the incident and the collision itself.

“If you were in the area at the time and witnessed the collision or were driving past at the time and have a dash cam in your vehicle which may have captured the collision we’d like to hear from you.”
