House plan can go-ahead

A CONTROVERSIAL scheme to build a house on a former garden site in the Bessacarr conservation area can go ahead.

A Government inspector has overturned Doncaster Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for a house on land that used to be a garden next to 21 St Eric’s Road.

The council had claimed the scheme could set a precedent for development in gardens.

But Department for Communities and Local Government inspector Leslie Coop said he thought it was unlikely there were many similar sites to set a precedent for.

He said the land had been fenced off and surfaced, and no trace of the garden remained.
