Iconic Chapeltown Baths closes
Chapeltown Baths yesterday hosted its final swimming gala after making a splash for more than 55 years.
Budding Rebecca Adlingtons and Ian Thorpes are set to move into a brand new £7m pool and leisure centre, which is set to open in Thorncliffe Recreation Ground, up the road in High Green, in mid-April.

“I’ve grown so fond of the place, you spend so much time here it feels like we’re moving house,” Louise said.
“It’s been a big part of my life and my family’s life, I spend four nights a week here then there can be a competition at the weekend.
“I know it’s old and the facilities aren’t great but it has lots of character and I learnt to swim here 40 years ago and so did my two boys, who both compete.

The club, which has 88 members, has a waiting list and the brand new pool will help to accommodate those wanting to join.
Joanne Myers’ 12-year-old son swims at the pool.
She said: “It’s a huge part of the community, and it’s great to come down for the children to keep fit and meet lots of great people.”
Sheffield Council had considered redeveloping the Chapeltown site for a new pool but decided it was too small and would not offer enough value for money.
