Rob Townend, claims director for Aviva said: “High winds, heavy rain and potentially snow on high ground are forecast and could cause havoc to homes and businesses, but there are some simple things that can be done now to protect property and vehicles.

"It’s likely that this weather front will also cause disruption to travel plans so take care on the roads and be prepared for delays.

“Our claims teams are ready and here to help if your property or car has been damaged as a direct result of storm force conditions. We can also arrange alternative accommodation for you if the damage means you need to move out of your home temporarily.”

"Safely store or secure any garden furniture, ornaments, bikes or children’s toys and outside play equipment.

"Make sure all doors and windows are closed."
