Izzy's thanking the Evans for DJ's knees-up

Disc Jockey and wild boy Chris Evans celebrated his third marriage in a beachside restaurant on the Algarve owned by a couple of Sheffield men, the Diary can reveal.

The red-headed media mogul and his bride, Natasha Shismanian, finished off the night at Izzy’s near Quinto do Lago, which belongs to James Mottram from Dore and his business pal John Todd.

“It’s one of his favourites and he comes here a lot,” says James.

“I’ve met him two or three times and we say hello and I ask if he’s enjoying himself but we don’t start taking photographs.”

Celebrities know they will left in peace if they go to Izzy’s.

Chris, aged 41, had married Natasha at a British register office then flew 200 guests over to the Algarve for a restaurant meal further along the coast.

Then the couple brought 60 friends along to Izzy’s to finish the celebrations. The restaurant and bar are right on the Garrao beach.

“ He asked for a splash of fish, sushi, chicken and steaks. It was a huge buffet,” says James, who declines to say how much it might have cost the multimillionaire.

The event was photographed by Hello! magazine and in a national newspaper but to James’s annoyance the paper didn’t give his restaurant a namecheck. He’s looking forward to seeing it in the magazine.

James describes Izzy’s as “high end” where four langoustines can set you back €100 (60).

He says: “If you have them it’s remarkably expensive, particularly when you can see them in the sea!”

But other dishes - the restaurant specialises in fish, steaks, chicken and traditional Portuguese food - are more reasonable.

James, who has interests in property and a home in Spain, has been visiting the area, known as the Golden Triangle of Europe because of its monied residents, for over ten years.

He and John, who now lives in London, grew up in Sheffield and went to school together. James is a keen golfer and member of the Sickleholme club and plays on the Algarve courses, where John has a property.

They liked the restaurant but were irritated it opened irregularly.

“We made some inquiries and found the owner had got divorced and was going back to Brazil. So we bought it off him.” Business has increased by 400 per cent.

James, who visits every month with his wife Nicky, says they are “hands off” management and leave it to restaurant boss, Isabel, after whom the place is named.

Chris is not the only celebrity who drops in to Izzy’s, as do many members of Sheffield’s golfing fraternity.

“It’s nice that he chose us and it’s good publicity,” he says.
