Legend set to take to skies over Doncaster

A LEGENDARY warplane will fly over the skies of Doncaster this weekend as part of a special anniversary event.

A fly-past by a Second World War aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will be the highlight of the Traditional Car Club of Doncaster’s classic car show.

It will soar over Doncaster College for the Deaf on Sunday late in the afternoon, weather conditions permitting.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year and the Traditional Car Club of Doncaster is also celebrating its 40th anniversary.

More than 350 classic cars from the north of England will converge on the college grounds off Leger Way and there will be live music from the Armthorpe Elmfield Band.

Entertainment and activities will be provided by The Rapide Brothers Clowns, original 1940s rides, donkeys, ferret racing, and more than 40 stalls.

Also on show will be Quicksilver, the British boat being built to challenge for the World Water Speed Record.

Vehicles as diverse as a 1911 steam-powered car and unusual cars of the 1970s and 1980s will be on display with many of the exhibitors in period dress.

Entry to the show is 1 per adult. The car park opposite the new grandstand will cost 1 per vehicle. The show will be open from 10am until 5pm and will raise cash for the Alzheimer’s Society.
