New cash fund will pay for new ‘well being’ services in town’s communities
But councillors will not know exactly what services they are funding until a panel to select the successful candidates has met.
The Well-Being Fund has been set up by the Central Area Council, made up of Barnsley Councillors who represent the district, using £90,000 of their annual budget, topped up with £34,000 from a ‘healthier communities’ fund.

Hide AdOrganisations applying to provide services have had to meet specific criteria, to ensure any services they do provide in future meet both area council priorities and the targets of the healthier living initiative.
Applications must be in by March 22, with a selection panel then meeting to hear presentations before making a decision on which services will be adopted.
Area council manager Carol Brady told councillors: “We won’t know until they come in what we have got.”
So far, 24 different organisations have shown an interest in providing services.
The area council next meets on April 29 and report is expected to be provided to that meeting, outlining the new services which are to be provided.
