Nuisance bikers wreak havoc across South Yorkshire

Police officers in South Yorkshire were inundated with complaints about off-road bikers and motorists causing a nuisance over the weekend.

Officers and PCSOs in north Rotherham mounted a specialist operation to tackle the issue but said there were still ‘numerous calls about nuisance vehicles’.

They issued a warning to a rider in Swinton and to another motorist for careless and inconsiderate driving on Monkwood Road, Rawmarsh.

Officers also seized a quad and a road bike causing a nuisance at Stubbin Pit, also in Rawmarsh.

Another quad biker fled as officers arrived.

A spokesman for the Rotherham North Local Policing Team said: “We also responded to numerous calls of off-road motorbikes in Thrybergh Woods, Silverwood Woods and land behind Fosters Garden Centre. Bikers were spotted at these locations, but due to multiple entrance and exit points, made off on police arrival.

“Patrols in these areas will continue.

“This issue of nuisance motorbikes is common throughout the summer months, at various locations within South Yorkshire.

“Patrols will continue through our beat area to assist with issues of nuisance motorbikes.”

Officers in Sheffield dealt with nuisance bikers in Intake, Charnock, Waterthorpe and Handsworth over the weekend .
