After the floods, now the fumes

IT seems to me that, following the floods, far more vehicles on the roads are leaving clouds of evil-smelling fumes in their wake. Doubtless, being stuck in water doesn't make them any more efficient, but if since July 1 it has been against the law to smoke tobacco products in a public place, it should equally be illegal to gratuitously fill public places with carcinogenic vehicle fumes.

What is the ratio of deaths from traffic-fume related causes, to that from road accidents? If 'our' government were honest, it would publicise them more. It's at least seven fume-related deaths, to every one on the roads.
