Buses taking a ridiculous route

I remember when I had to catch the bus to work in town from Ecclesfield in 1973-1977 and the bus route was straightforward.

A number 89, 79 or 10 all went straight through Hillsborough, Shalesmoor and into town, about a 25 minute ride.

Now I find my son has to catch three buses just to get from Ecclesfield to Infirmary Road in Hillsborough, taking him almost an hour on a good day.

Surely there must be a way of providing buses with a more direct route than this.

He goes from Ecclesfield to Southey, then from Southey to Hillsborough and on from Hillsborough to Infirmary Road. It’s ridiculous.
