Excuse for gullies not being cleared doesn't hold water
I would correct some of his statements: he blames 'vehicles parked at all times' for gullies not being cleared.
The main Chesterfield Road outside my house is a clearway. One of the many offending gullies is directly at the bottom of my drive, within an H marking. He talks of having 'cleared the drains and gullies'. Yes. The gullies are emptied but drains, especially around the trap, are not rodded through to the main sewer, in my neck of the wood between the ever-eroding Derbyshire Lane and Beeton Road.

Hide AdI throw down a challenge to Mr Hetherington: join me to witness the erosion of streets and asphalt topping of the gullies in my area.

IS Nick Hetherington, Head of Sheffield City Council Street Force Service (July 24) aware that drain cleaning only is hardly good enough. Taking steps to rectify drains that do not work is required. What about the non-existent drains, that is even worse? Has he not read The Star where articles have been written regarding these drains?
There are areas of Sheffield that, over 14 years, have regularly flooded with only modest rainfall and some from time immorial have flooded. Has he not noticed that his drains do not work in certain areas?
Please do not let the Dutch know about our modest rain floods, they will only laugh at us and think we in Sheffield are a joke.
