Flood-hit road faces major repair work

The road has been subject to one-way, traffic light controlled operation since the flooding on June 25, when part of the busy road linking the north of the city to the city centre subsided.

Detailed geo-technical surveys have been carried out and are now being analysed, but it has already become evident that a major engineering project will be required to restore the road that will take months rather than weeks to complete.

We originally hoped to complete the work during the summer holiday period, when traffic was comparatively light, but the detailed surveys have shown the full extent of the underground work required to stabilise the road to cope with the volume of traffic now using this route.

We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused motorists, but it is only with the benefit of underground surveys that we can fully appreciate the scale of the problem. Once the final survey details have been assessed, we will design and build the scheme as quickly as possible.
