We asked our readers on social media what they thought Sheffield was best known for, and we received more than 600 responses.
There’s a lot to be proud of and plenty of claims to fame but there were certainly more there were mentioned than others, for example steel and Henderson’s Relish - but some might also surprise you. Below are just some of the things that Sheffield is famous for, according to our readers.
5. Beres
Beres started life right here in the city, and its success can be measured by its 14 sandwich shops across the city. It's a well known brand here and popular among residents - but you'll only find the company's venues here in Sheffield. Photo: Dean Atkins
6. Arctic Monkeys
From High Green, the Arctic Monkeys are undoubtedly one of the most successful bands to come from Sheffield. Since releasing their debut album 17 years ago in 2006, the band has had six albums reach no.1 in the charts, and frontman Alex Turner (pictured) has an estimated net worth of $25 million. 7. Snooker and the Crucible
The Crucible on Norfolk Street, is renowned for snooker. Since 1977, the city centre venue has hosted professional snooker's most prestigious tournament, the annual World Snooker Championship. Each year the event attracts thousands of tourists to the city as they come to watch each session.
8. Def Leppard
Def Leppard are hailed as one of the world’s greatest rock bands, and they come from right here in Sheffield. They are one of only five rock bands with two original studio albums selling more than 10 million copies in the US. Photo: Danny Lawson
