A long shot for whoever is running the Blades this week!

The Blades are seeking a new manager to enable a first season bounce-back to the Premiership.

Way back in my formative years my soccer hero was one Jimmy Hagan, the Blades legendary No 8.

On my 10th birthday, 1956, he was serving in his shop on Abbeydale Road and my father had arranged for him to provide my first pair of football boots.

Jimmy Hagan eventually very successfully managed in Portugal and Benfica being one of his clubs. In Portugal he mentored another legend Bobby, later Sir Bobby Robson, who in turn mentored the ‘Special One’, José Mourinho at Porto.

José therefore indirectly has Jimmy Hagan to thank for his, mostly successful, career in management.

Perhaps now, on the market, he might feel it appealing to spend time elevating the Blades to their rightful level.

An approach might prove fruitful.

If he’s interested best not tell him that Cole Brothers (JLP), is closing… worth a punt?… he would probably prosper in a lower league and in the splendour of God’s country!
