Aspire Community Enterprise calls for donations of old IT routers in Sheffield

Aspire recycle and refurbish IT equipment wiping any data to internationally recognised ISO27001 standards, before selling the refurbished computer equipment to the public, schools, charities and businesses.

Funds raised are used to help provide placements for vulnerable and marginalised people.

The primary focus of the vibrant social enterprise is to provide a stable job and a supported working environment for people who may otherwise face barriers concerning experience, ongoing problems of homelessness, disabilities, past mistakes, learning difficulties, or other issues.

As part of the Great Sheffield Router Roundup campaign, Sheffield people are being asked to collect any unused routers and other IT equipment, such as laptops, PCs, monitors, mobile phones and chargers, along with general electrical and electronic equipment, and donate it to Aspire to enable them to continue to provide fulfilling and enriching placements.

Aspire Manager Dave Metcalfe said: “The constant swapping and searching for the best broadband deals often leaves behind an abundance of orphaned and unwanted equipment in the process. We want people to know there’s a local place where old routers (and other electrical equipment) can be recycled. Not only are we a local organisation to recycle with, removing the carbon footprint of posting items to recycle, but you can be assured that we take data security seriously. Why use a company from outside of the city when there's a fabulous homegrown solution right on the doorstep! So roundup your routers!”

Volunteer, Bob Bassett, said, about Aspire: “There’s something magic about this place. It’s the philosophy that makes Aspire special. They’re a great crew, and the way they help out vulnerable and socially isolated people, giving them a sense of purpose, it’s just brilliant, and I feel lucky to be part of it.”

Donate IT, electrical and electronic equipment to Aspire, at SOAR Works, Parson Cross, S5 9NU, between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.
