With the help of John Healey, the MP for Wentworth and Dearne, Rotherham’s-own Chantry Brewery has been given the exciting chance to supply a guest ale at Westminster’s Strangers Bar.

The 80-barrel brewery will be supplying its Parkgate 200 beer, which marks 200 years since the Parkgate-area was established with an ironworks and a small steelworks in 1823, and celebrates its rich industrial history and heritage.

Chantry Brewery opened in Parkgate in November 2012 and it continues to produce a wide range of award-winning beers . It also now owns four traditional-feeling pubs, including the Chantry Inn on Handsworth Road, which was acquired in early 2019, and Rotherham venues Cutlers’ Arms, New York Tavern, and Chantry Brewery Tap.

Chief brewer Mick Warburton said: “This is a great chance for us to showcase our beers in Parliament and we can’t wait to get down there and see what people think. All our beers are lovingly made and a lot of time goes into balancing the flavours and perfecting all of our Chantry beers.

“Parkgate 200 has been specially brewed to commemorate the history of Parkgate and at Chantry we are proud of our history and remember our roots as we strive to share our real ale with the world.”

The ale will be on offer at the Strangers Bar, which is exclusively open to Members of Parliament, their guests, and members of parliamentary staff, from Monday, April 24.

Mr Healey said: “I can’t wait to see Chantry’s Parkgate 200 on the pumps in the Strangers Bar and give visitors, guests and MPs a real taste of what Rotherham has to offer.

“Chantry Brewery really has gone from strength to strength over the last decade and I know how much hard work goes into each and every beer they produce.

“It’s also a fantastic opportunity to celebrate 200 years of the Parkgate area with the Parkgate 200 brew which commemorates our industrial heritage in the borough.”
