‘I hope this gets the go-ahead’: Proposed new Sheffield FC stadium sends excitement across the city

The world's oldest football club is in the midst of planning for a new stadium and heritage centre to celebrate the city's history as the home of football.
The 4,000-arena, alongside an interactive attraction explaining the City of Steel's role as the birthplace of football, will be built at a side in Meadowhead.

Hide AdThe new ground will be located at Sheffield Transport Sports Club, just off Meadowhead Roundabout.
Although the project is expected to be ready in as little as two years, many football fans are already throwing their support behind the proposal.
Commenting on The Star's Facebook page, Pete West said: "Hope the council gives permission for this to go ahead and redevelop the tired looking transport ground - great for Sheffield FC "
Paul Booth agreed, saying: "I hope this gets the go-ahead. It'd be great for the club, the city and for the history of football."

Hide AdOn Twitter, football fans are equally excited about the project.
@SemperEadem_ said: "Pleasing news this morning in the @SheffieldStar that @sheffieldfc are finally moving back into the city with their own ground.
"Do really hope the plans up at Meadowhead contain a terrace."
The club is preparing to apply to North East Derbyshire District Council for permission to build homes on the site of its existing ground in Dronfield.

Hide AdIt also hopes to submit plans to Sheffield Council before the end of 2021 for the new home ground, which it says could be built in a year.
