The centre, which would normally be packed to the rafters on a Saturday, was virtually empty today aside from a few shoppers who were picking up essential items.
Centre bosses said that although the shopping mall is largely closed, some ‘essential stores’ are still open and ‘enhanced’ cleaning regimes are in place to ensure customer safety.

Hide AdThey are urging everyone to follow the government’s guidance by only visiting Meadowhall to buy essential items and to keep a safe distance of two metres from others at all times when doing so.
The UK has been in a nationwide lockdown since March 23 in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus, meaning people can only leave their homes to buy groceries, medical appointments or supplies, exercise once a day and essential travel to work.
In the daily coronavirus press briefing on Thursday, the foreign secretary Dominic Raab announced the restrictions would continue for “at least" another three weeks.
He said that a review had concluded relaxing the measures now would risk harming public health and the economy.

Hide AdSpeaking at Number 10, he said: "We still don't have the infection rate down as far as we need to.”
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Sheffield has today risen to 1,553 and 141 people have sadly died.
Meanwhile, the UK death toll stands at 15,464 following a rise of 888 in the last 24 hour reporting period.
