Local elections 2021: What time do polling stations close as polls open in Sheffield

Polling stations are open from 7am until 10pm. Those who were unable to vote in person have submitted their votes via proxy or via post. If you are voting by post and you haven’t made it to the post-box, you can hand your vote in at any polling station across Sheffield or at the Town Hall, this must be done before 10pm, Thursday, May 6.

“Today is the day to exercise your vote. I’m encouraging everyone who has registered to pop down to their local polling station and have their say.

“This year’s election is like no other, both for you as a voter and for us in the preparation and planning in the face of a pandemic. We’ve taken extra measures to make sure all our polling stations are covid compliant, so you can rest assured that you can vote confidently.

“Our elections team have been working so hard to make sure everything is prepared. This is your chance; your opportunity to select the candidate who best represents your values and priorities.

“We all know how unpredictable English weather can be, so please dress accordingly when heading out to vote in case there are any queues and the wet weather returns. We’re kindly asking everyone this year to wear a mask and to bring your own pen or pencil. You don’t need your polling card, but it will speed up the process if you do have it with you. Alongside all of this, social distancing will be in place, so please respect one another and let’s make sure we all feel safe whilst at the polling station.”

This year you are voting for your local Councillor, Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) and the Governance Referendum. Voters in some parts of the city will also be voting in parish council by-elections or a neighbourhood plan referendum.

Results will be announced on Friday, May 7, for the local election and Monday, May 10, for the PCC and Governance Referendum.
