17-year-old Callum Maxted and his 19-year-old brother Kieran, from Greenhill, made the generous gesture after seeing at first-hand the difference Sheffield Churches Council for Community Care – SCCCC – make to the lives of older people in the city.
The handy duo, who each donated £200 last month, learned about the work of SCCCC when they started volunteering two years ago.

Callum said: “I work for SCCCC during the holidays or when I have any other spare time away from college during the week. Knowing that I have helped an elderly person in need by providing the necessary support is a great feeling.
“Not only that, but SCCCC have given me an opportunity to broaden my own work experience. Therefore, I felt that it was only right that I gave something back to the charity.”
Kieran, who works at the charity when he comes home for his university break, said: “I generally work with the Hospital to Home team. It’s an eye-opening experience, and helps me to understand and empathise with the challenges older people face. It also lets me actively assist others in overcoming them.

SCCCC was set up October 1966 by church members in Sheffield but has today expanded to support older people of all faiths as well as secular groups across the city.
They now work alongside the council, NHS and other church denominations to achieve their mission of improving the wellbeing of older people in Sheffield.
Bosses at the Savile Street East-based charity added they are always looking for new volunteers, especially students, and say anyone who does so can easily arrange their volunteering around their studies if they wish.
