Sheffield dance teacher helping to keep people on the move

Charlotte Armitage has stepped up to help a nationwide initiative to keep people moving.

She has been called upon by One Dance UK, the sector support organisation for dance, to help with the premiere of a new video as part of itsr ‘Centre Stage’ programme, celebrating and highlighting the work of its members.

A spokesman said: “At a time of uncertainty, it is more important than ever to come together as a community to support and celebrate each other.

“Dance can be hugely beneficial to both mental and physical health for people partaking in it, and as such, we set out to find ways of highlighting its true power, even during the lockdown.”

They continued: “We reached out to One Dance UK member Charlotte Armitage, who as a freelance community dance artist has found herself unexpectedly out of work. Based in South Yorkshire, Charlotte has been leading ‘Dance in Driveways’ classes for her community every morning. Armed with a microphone, a PA, and a lot of enthusiasm, Charlotte has used the amazing power of dance to bring this community of people aged between five months and 80 years out of their isolation and together – with great results for all taking part.”

Charlotte said: “Dance has a real way of physically making you feel better, mentally making you feel better and through a project like this emotionally and socially making you feel better.”

One Dance UK is providing a multitude of resources to the dance sector including a 3-month free trial for freelancers, a free PDF of quality teaching resources form top companies, a digital dance classes and performance calendar, and new digital tutorials for people now working online.
