The Moor Market was awash with pink on Friday, October 23, as traders swapped their usual attire to collect donations for Breast Cancer Now, a national charity which facilitates vital research into the deadly disease.
‘Wear it pink’ day is one of the biggest fundraising events in the UK and takes place every October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Hide AdSusannah Youdan, of S and J's Pantry, said many working on the Moor Market had been affected by the disease in one way or another and therefore felt compelled to take part and raise money for the cause.
She said: “We have some traders in the market that have undergone therapy for breast cancer in the past. This year many have undergone treatment that they didn’t undergo last year so it’s become a bit more personal.”
Traders on the Moor Market first took part in ‘Wear it Pink’ day in 2019 and managed to raise over £900 for charity.
It is now hoped they have been able to raise even more money, with some traders opting to put their donation boxes out on Saturday too to bring in extra funds.

"Everybody has had a box on their stall to gather the funds. We ran a competition for traders to make their own money boxes – they’ve been very creative – and for the trader who work the most pink.
"Overall the day has been good fun. Its made the customers smile and laugh which I feel has been a relief as such, just to have a light relief at the moment during these unprecedented times.
"The customers have been very generous too putting their change in the boxes. Hopefully we can raise more this year but with the situation as it is, with people’s money and jobs, we’re just grateful for everything people can spare.”
