Sheffield's festive cranes by M1 at Meadowhall celebrated by people driving home for Christmas

The illuminated structures put on an unmissable show beside the M1 near Meadowhall every year. And on seeing them, many a festive motorist will know they are nearly at their destination.

The cranes are on Grange Mill Lane, Shiregreen, and belong to HTC Wolffkran which puts up fairy lights every Christmas. The site has also hosted Dr Who – in 2018 Jodie Whitaker performed a death-defying leap between two cranes.
