While for many of us a string of lights and a smattering of tinsel suffice, others have pulled out all the stops and put the electricity bill to the back of their minds to make their homes stand out.
And there are certain streets where everyone has got in on the act to transform their small corner of South Yorkshire into a winter wonderland.

That was the question posed on the popular Facebook page Pictures of Sheffield old and new, and the resounding answer was Abbeydale Park Rise in Dore.
While other names were mentioned, including the Waverley estate, Ashfurlong Road in Dore and Benmore Drive in Sothall, that was the street which kept cropping up.
For years, householders have hung lights from the trees there, creating a truly magical atmosphere for residents and visitors alike, and drawing sightseers from across the city and beyond.

But this year's display is once again a sight to behold and, as in previous years, it is supporting great causes.
Its creators are raising money for the Eden Dora Trust, which supports children with encephalitis, and for Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
