Dan Johnson and his Birkdale School friends - Peter Crabbe and another Dan Johnson - were joined by spaniel Edie for their own 13.1-mile evening half-marathon trek, which they completed in an energetic six hours.

The intrepid trio have raised £630 that will go to patient care at St Luke’s.

The friends started out at the Botanical Gardens and then walked all the way along Abbeydale Road and through Beauchief out to Bradway, the home of fourth friend Will Jones, who was ill on the day and unable to take part.

They then came back into Sheffield along Abbey Lane via St Luke’s and headed back down Ecclesall Road to finish at the Botanical Gardens.

“We did Night Strider last year and raised quite a lot of money, so when we heard about Virtual Night Strider, we thought we would do it ourselves,” said 13-year-old Dan.

“It was fun, we all enjoyed it and we’re really pleased to have raised so much money - we’d like to raise even more.”
