Plans in pipeline for prominent Chesterfield building
The former Abacus bar shut in January after the company which operated it, Enjoy Pubs Ltd, was closed under insolvency legislation.
Now, documents lodged with Chesterfield Borough Council show businessman Carl Bown has applied for a premises licence for the St Mary’s Gate building.

Hide AdThe application covers the sale of alcohol and ‘regulated entertainment’ including live and recorded music.
The Abacus opened in February, 2011, and was a popular nightspot in the town.
Projected net sales for 2015 were £570,741. Turnover was £710,724 during 2014.
The three-storey building was previously home to the Barracuda bar.

Companies House documents show a High Court judge ordered that Plymouth-based Enjoy Pubs Ltd be wound up under the provisions of the Insolvency Act after a creditor petitioned for such action to happen.
