Police on the scent of lock-up cannabis plants

A STRONG s mell of cannabis sparked a tip-off that led police to 30 plants in a lock-up in Wombwell, Barnsley.

Wombwell SNT officers arrested a man in the final stages of cultivation at premises behind a pub on High Street.

He was interviewed and given a formal caution.

PC Ady Waites said the tip-off was made anonymously to the Crimestoppers phone line.

He added: "This shows the good work and co-operation between various agencies including crimestoppers and the SNT, and the importance of using the Crimestoppers contact line, 0800 555 111.

"I hope this will act as a warning that all SNTs will act quickly to apprehend those persons who believe they can make quick money through cultivating cannabis of any amount."
