Police step up patrols after reports of drug-taking and prostitution in Sheffield car park

Members of the public have reported a number of crimes and issues at the Hartshead multi-storey car park over the past few weeks.

Some of the worst sightings include people openly injecting drugs, blood splattered on walls and half-dressed prostitutes.

South Yorkshire Police said it was working with NCP, which owns the car park, to address the problem.

City centre neighbourhood Sergeant Naomi Saxton said: “We are aware of anti-social behaviour in some of the city centre multi-storey car parks and continue to work to tackle this issue.

“Our crime reduction officers have been supporting NCP with their efforts to address this and officers regularly patrol the area. We also continue to work closely with partner agencies to support any vulnerable people, so that we can help them to access the necessary support.

“I would ask that anyone who witnesses any antisocial behaviour, or who is a victim of anti-social behaviour, to report any incident to us so that we can immediately act upon it.”

An NCP spokesman added: “We are very aware that these isolated incidents are not ideal for anyone, particularly customers visiting our car park, and we do apologise to any customer who has witnessed anything of concern.

“We are liaising with the police as it is important that they are aware of the situation and can help us with this. From NCP’s side we have a maintenance team on site, cleaning and refreshing the stairwells, we also have a member of staff on site during opening hours and we will now be increasing management presence to support the staff on site. NCP takes matters like this extremely seriously and we are working hard to stop the occasional misuse of this car park.”
